SPED: The Final Frontier... Black Holes, Apps and other Anomalies. LIMITED

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

Sometimes it may seem that in special education, and in the app store, it can feel like you are falling in a black hole!  A black whole where you hear names of so many wonderful things, that might be useful, but you can never actually see the true usefulness because you are spinning out of control in the darkness with no time to touch, see, or do.  So much to explore, so little time! In our Interactive working session, where exploring will be necessary, you will leave here knowing how to make a social story, use video modeling techniques, create individualized 5-point scales for your students, use behavior tracking tools, and learn mindfulness techniques and apps. If time allows we will also have an app sharing time so bring your favorites to share and how you utilize them!  We will have a list of Leslie and Deb’s to give you as well!

We will be using these apps so please download:

  • Social Stories Creator by Touch Autism; iMovie by Apple; Videolicious; ChatterPix or ChatterKid; Grump Meter; Autism 5-point Scale EP by Minnesota Governor’s Counsel, Emotion Touch by Brian Minter
  • Calm: Meditation to relax focus and sleep better; Behavior Snap by Super Psyched; 3 Minute Mindfulness: Meditation and Breathing App by Zenco Limited; Breathing Bubbles by Momentous Institute; Breathe, Think, Do with Sesame by Sesame Street; Stop, Breath & Think: Meditation and Mindfulness
  • Yoga for Beginners-Meditation Relax Stress Relief; Yoga Studio by Gaiam; Yoga Break by Fitness Guide; Yoga with Patrick Broome by USM

  • Also bring some type of Tally Counter like Tally It! or Tally Pad or Super Duper Data Tracker or another that you have. Many of these have been free on AppsGoneFree.

  • Be ready with these Web resources: Mind Yeti, Calm, Go Noodle, and Move to Learn
